Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge publie à l’occasion du 150e anniversaire de la bataille de Solférino, qui déclencha la création de cette organisation, un ouvrage rassemblant des photos inédites de conflits depuis la Guerre de Sécession américaine. La Croix-Rouge a été fondée en 1863 par un jeune homme d’affaires suisse, Henry Dunant, traumatisé par la bataille de Solférino (nord de l’Italie), en 1859. Les premières sociétés nationales de secours, formées en temps de paix pour pouvoir intervenir rapidement et efficacement en temps de guerre, voient le jour dès l’année suivante. Dunant tombe alors dans l’anonymat. Il n’en sortira que 20 ans plus tard, recevant en 1901 le premier Prix Nobel de la Paix.Le Mouvement de la Croix-Rouge est formé du CICR qui s’occupe plus particulièrement des zones de conflit, et de la FICR, active dans tous les pays grâce à ses sociétés nationales, et qui coordonne et mène des actions d’aide internationale surtout lors des catastrophes naturelles ou dans les situations d’urgence sanitaire.Outre le 150e anniversaire de la bataille de Solférino, l’année 2009 marque aussi les 90 ans de la fondation à Genève de la FICR et les 60 ans des Conventions de Genève. À cette occasion, le Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge a lancé vendredi dernier une campagne mondiale de mobilisation. Parmi les initiatives, la publication d’un ouvrage inédit rassemblant plus de 200 photos d’archives pour retracer l’histoire des conflits depuis la Guerre de Sécession américaine et l’évolution de son action ..
Une exposition des photographies du livre sera présentée début septembre au festival international de photojournalisme Visa pour l’Image à Perpignan, puis à Paris en novembre. (Le Figaro)
